Employment Opportunities & Gate Pass

Chautauqua Institution is recruiting employees who are passionate about our mission for dynamic employment opportunities – both summer seasonal and career positions are available.  Employment includes a full-season pass for complimentary access to most programs and concerts. 


Summer Operating Season & Work Schedule

While select departments operate year-round, Chautauqua Institution primarily hires to support summer seasonal operations from June 27 – August 30, 2020.  Your work schedule will be customizable and flexible, but most positions require a commitment of (20) hours/week with some evening and weekend availability.


Summer Employment & COVID-19

Chautauqua Institution is still hiring for select seasonal positions in support of the new virtual platform, Chautauqua Assembly, and other business operations that will remain open this summer.  Our first priority is the health and safety of our staff, patrons, and greater community.  The Institution continues to follow Center's for Disease Control (CDC) and other federal and state government guidance to protect those who invest their professional and personal lives and time into delivery of our mission. 


Minor Friendly Positions

Chautauqua Institution hires minors (ages 11-17) for select positions with a valid New York State Work Permit.  Employment opportunities available for minors are marked as *minor friendly* on  Minors, under the age of (18), can find information on obtaining a New York State Work Permit by visiting (scroll down to the ‘employment section’) or by clicking HERE.


Application Process

In order to officially receive consideration for open positions, candidates must complete an online application at  Candidates will create an account on the online career portal and start an easy application process.   Candidates should retain login (email address) and password, as they will be required to log back into the career portal to complete an electronic onboarding process at the time of hire.


Hiring Process

Hiring processes are variable by position/department.  If a candidate is qualified for an open position, they will be contacted by a hiring manager directly via phone and/or email to coordinate an interview.  Candidates may not necessarily be contacted for their ‘first choice’ position.  If a candidate is selected for employment, they will be directed to complete an electronic onboarding process using the same login (email)/password that was used to complete an application on
