Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.


    The Literary Arts Center at Alumni Hall housekeeper position is a full-time, Monday-Saturday seasonal job for the Literary Arts Center at Alumni Hall. It is a three-story building on the grounds of Chautauqua Institution that includes apartments, classrooms, gathering spaces, public restrooms, and antiques. The housekeeper reports to the building host/manager for the Literary Arts Center at Alumni Hall, keeps all public spaces clean as needed, and cleans the apartments for new occupants each week.


    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:


    • Assist with opening and closing cleaning chores for Literary Arts Center at Alumni Hall
    • Maintain clean and attractive classrooms, gathering spaces, and public restrooms
    • Complete cleaning related to weekly turnover of 3rd floor apartments (frequently on Saturdays)
    • Maintain a written log of cleaning chores completed
    • Communicate needs for supplies and appliance maintenance to building host/manager
    • Follow Chautauqua Institution's rules for recycling and trash
    • Attend and assist with special functions at the Literary Arts Center at Alumni Hall


    • Welcoming demeanor and assistance to all building residents and visitors
    • Experience preferred, but willingness to learn is acceptable
