    The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.

    Responsibilities

    The Chautauquan Daily seeks a Business Office Associate to support the Business Office Manager and provide excellent customer service to members of the Chautauqua community seeking to purchase single copies, subscriptions or classified advertising.

    • Approximately 25–30 hours per week
    • Full-season Chautauqua Institution gate and parking passes provided
    • Housing is not provided; applicants should have access to nearby housing and reliable transportation

    During Chautauqua’s nine-week summer season, the Daily is a community newspaper distributed six days a week by carriers to subscribers at their homes/accommodations within the grounds and immediately outside the Institution. It is also sold by sellers/hawkers on Bestor Plaza.

    • Provide excellent customer service to any Chautauqua community member who calls or visits the Daily Business Office
    • Process written, phone and in-person subscription, single-copy and classified advertising orders
    • Maintain accurate cash drawer
    • Regularly invoice other Institution entities for daily newspaper draws; assist with advertising invoicing as necessary
    • Contribute to the Daily's team-centric atmosphere

    Qualifications

    • 18 years or older
    • Demonstrated reliability and commitment to accuracy and efficiency 
    • Proven customer service and problem solving skills
    • Performs well under pressure
    • Proficiency with computers and databases
    • Knowledge of Chautauqua Institution helpful
    • Occasional Saturday hours may be required
