    The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.

    Responsibilities

    Chautauqua's Special Studies program offers classes for all ages in a variety of subjects, including art, music, business, computers, culinary, handcrafts, history, photography, music, and theater.

    The persons hired for this position will serve as Registration Clerk and Building Facilitator at Turner Community Center for the Special Studies program.

    • Morning facilitator/clerk works from 6:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
    • Afternoon facilitator/clerk works from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shifts can be split depending on availability.
    • Ensures safe and efficient operation of Turner facilities by Special Studies instructors and students.
    • Assists with room set-up and additional classroom demands as needed.
    • Reports to Special Studies registrar as needed.
    • Assists Turner building staff (including Director of Recreation) when necessary.
    • Provides customer service support for registration of youth and adult participants for the Special Studies program.
    • Processes in-person registration for Special Studies courses
    • Supports the A/V coordinator with equipment distribution around the grounds.
    • Provide general support for any customer visiting Turner for Special Studies or other programming
    • Position starts one to two weeks prior to season start date. Must be available to work Sundays.

    Qualifications

    • Must be self-motivated, attentive to detail, and possess exceptional customer service skills.
    • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. is required.  
    • 18 years and up.
    • 1-2 years previous customer service experience strongly preferred.
