    The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.


    The Brick Walk Café Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Brick Walk Cafe. Oversees Kitchen Manager and Shift Managers.


    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

    * Preseason:

    • Assists with recruiting and training of Service Team
    • Assists with programming and operation of POS systems
    • Assists with other various aspects of pre-season planning and preparation

    * In Season:

    Maintains a dining room presence:

    • Assists with supervision of Service Team and Culinary Team through ongoing training, coaching and redirection

    * Must possess excellent guest relations skills:

    • Develop guest relations
    • Recognizing guest issues
    • Ability to troubleshoot and recover guests

    * Works with Kitchen Managers & Culinary Team:

    • Ensure proper food safety and sanitation standards
    • Ensure food quality and plate presentation

    * Responsible for financial performance:

    • Cash handling
    • Oversee Receiver with purchasing/management of food costs
    • Inventory controls (waste, shrink)
    • Scheduling and labor control
    • Meeting or exceeding operational budget expectations


      • Be able to attend orientation and all subsequent training

      • Responsible to uphold uniform policy, personal hygiene, and grooming standards and present in a professional manner.

      • Perform all other duties as assigned
      • Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
      • be able to stand and walk as constant conditions
      • be able to stand frequent handling of objects, reaching, maneuvering and continually positioning of oneself to perform assigned tasks
      • be able to physically grasp and transport items up to 50 pounds, including kitchen supplies and dishware
      • be able to work a flexible schedule to include 5 a.m opening shifts and/or midnight or later closing shifts.



    • Minimum 2-years experience in commercial kitchen preferred
    • Minimum 2-3 years manager experience in a face paced, high volume environment.
