The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.
Children's School at Chautauqua Institution is a developmental preschool for youth ages 3 to 5.
The program includes a wide range of social, recreational and educational activities. Weekly themes often incorporate other Chautauqua programs in the areas of music, drama and art. Each classroom is staffed with: one certified head teacher; one assistant teacher; one college-age assistant; and one high school-age assistant. The teachers work as a team and share classroom responsibilities to create an enriching, positive atmosphere.
Assistant Teachers for Children's school will help the Head Teachers with their program to meet the needs and interests of their specific age and/or grade level. All activities should be designed to be developmentally appropriate for the students with in each level. This structure provides the most appropriate approach to both meeting the specific needs and interests of our students and for preparing them for the transition to the Boys' and Girls' Club.
