Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.

    Responsibilities

    The Ticket Office Sales and Support Specialist will report directly to the Guest Engagement & Strategic Initiatives Manager. They will be primarily responsible for assisting guests with planning their Chautauqua Experience including informing guests of services, provide pricing information, and processing orders. This is a fun, fast-paced environment where staff work quickly and accurately under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor. Sales and Support Specialists must be willing to cross train in all areas of the ticketing office to ensure a well-rounded understanding of operations.

    • Call Center:
      • Answers Ticket Office telephone line and process telephone/on-line orders.
      • Orders can range from simple to complex.
      • Business hours during season, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    • Ticket Window:
      • Greets guests who walk up to the ticket window. Processes guest orders. Answers a variety of questions. 
      • Orders can range from simple to complex.
      • Handles Will Call requests and provides guests with pre-ordered tickets and processes simple guest orders.
      • Business hours during the nine-week season are: daily, 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 .p.m.
    • Greets guests in a courteous manner.
    • Provides detailed information about services sold by the Ticket Office. This can include: gate passes, entertainment tickets, parking, class registration, youth programs, and recreation memberships.
    • Uses Ticket Office software to process orders and accept payment in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Maintains an accurate and organized cashier drawer.  
    • Provides a positive guest experience by being professional in appearance and demeanor.
    • Provides guidance to build and enhance a guest’s Chautauqua Experience.

    Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Detail-oriented and performs well under pressure.
    • Advanced computer skills including, but not limited to, the ability to type with speed and accuracy, browse web pages with ease, and navigate through multiple computer programs and systems is a must.
    • Prior customer service experience required; cashier experience preferred.
    • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and listening skills.
    • Knowledge of Chautauqua Institution preferred.
