    Responsibilities

    The Assistant Manager of Heirloom Restaurant is responsible for support of the Dining Services Manager in providing working leadership to waitstaff and oversight for the delivery of dining services.  The Assistant Manager will focus on modeling exceptional professional behavior to waitstaff and guests. This position will work during pre/post season for special events and weddings to provide oversight of functions waitstaff under the direction and support of the management team. 

     

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: 

    • Candidate must be an example of excellence in hospitality
    • Assist with the development and promotion of a complete set of service standards and staff training processes ensuring that delivery is consistent
    • Support of seasonal staffing challenges
    • Assist with operation of the hotel’s dining room, bar service, and direction of service staff
    • Communication with chef’s and kitchen staff regarding execution of food service  
    • Ensure proper set up of the dining room while maintaining a superior dining atmosphere for guests
    • Strong visual presence in the dining room during service periods to ensure guest satisfaction
    • Working knowledge of available seating and level of importance regarding assignment/organization of seating for the dining areas
    • Monitor service bar/assist with cash bars during pre/post season while enforcing New York State Liquor Law, Labor Law and Chautauqua Institution/Hotel Policies. 
    • Act as an expert user of the POS-System (Opera) and provide technical/managerial support to service staff
    • Maintain high levels of sanitation and cleanliness through proper food handling practices
    • Understand how the restaurant dining services support other internal departments and the Chautauqua experience
    • Collaborate with entire management team to enforce consistent corrective action procedures 
    • Promotes the Athenaeum Hotel's significance as a historic property within Chatauqua Institution

    Qualifications

    • Associates Degree in Hospitality or Restaurant Management strongly preferred; education preference may be substituted with combination of equivalent work experience 
    • 1-2 years prior supervisory or management experience required in a faced paced restaurant or banquet operation
    • Working knowledge of and ability to enforce New York State Liqour/Food Safety and Labor Laws
    • New York State Law requires employees who serve alcoholic beverages to be (18) years of age or older
