    The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.

    Responsibilities

     

    Greet guests and scan gate passes when entering and exiting the Chautauqua Institution grounds.  Many times the gate attendants are the first impression our guests have of Chautauqua Institution.  The gate attendant is expected to provide knowledge, be professional and demonstrate friendly customer service.Weekend only positions also available.  There are a total of seven gates; five for auto traffic and two for pedestrian traffic.  Gates are open from 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.; during special events select gates may stay open until 11:30 p.m.

    • Greet guests in a courteous manner.
    • Scans the guests' gate pass.
    • Assists guests when the gate pass scans invalid.  
    • Provide guest with basic information and directs guests to the Information Centers as needed.
    • Provides a positive guest experience by being professional in appearance and behavior.

    Qualifications

    • 18 years or older preferred.
    • Ability to work at least one shift each weekend during the nine week operating season. 
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Minimum 1-2 years customer service experience preferred.  
    • Knowledge of Chautauqua Institution preferred.  
    • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
