    The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.

    Responsibilities

    Servers will take accurate orders, ensure accurate/prompt deliver of guest orders and provide guests with an enjoyable dining experience.  Advanced knowledge of menu/specials and ability to learn/effectively use a POS-System (Opera) is key to success in this position. Servers must have a positive, high energy attitude and display professional verbal communication skills in a fast-paced, always evolving restaurant operation.  

     

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:  

    • Set and reset section tables according to restaurant standards
    • Learn and communicate food/beverage menus, specials, and up-sell menu options
    • Use excellent interpersonal communication skills and command of appropriate hospitality language
    • Accurately take guest orders and transfer information into the POS-System (Opera)
    • Intuitive understanding of service times and ability to provide assistance with delivery of orders
    • Execute proper wine service and table service procedures
    • Enthusiasm for the historic Athenaeum Hotel as well as activities/events within Chautauqua Institution
    • Perform a balanced check-out to record/report shift transactions
    • All other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • 1-2 years prior experience serving in a fine dining establishment required
    • Must have professional communication skills to interact with guests, team and front of house leadership
    • New York State Law requires employees who serve alcoholic beverages to be (18) years of age or older
