The Recreation Pillar of Chautauqua Institution consists of the Chautauqua Golf Club, Chautauqua Health & Fitness, Chautauqua Tennis Center, John R. Turney Sailing Center, Chautauqua Sports Club, Sharpe Softball Field, and four beaches located on the grounds of Chautauqua Institution. Operations range from 9 weeks in the summer to year-round.
This position is responsible for overseeing maintenance in recreation areas including lawn bowling field, shuffleboard courts, softball field, clay and hard tennis courts, pool, beaches, and fitness centers. Duties will include maintaining inventory and maintenance logs as well as supervising seasonal recreation maintenance staff at tennis and Sharpe field. Hours of work will vary throughout the year.
Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license and at least a high school diploma or GED. Must have basic mechanical and carpentry skills. Additionally, must have basic-to-intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet); with ability to effectively research and communicate options as needed.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills (especially ability to connect with others and show appropriate empathy); and demonstrate effective communication skills (including active listening).
Budgeting, organizing, record keeping skills are preferred.
Candidates with Lifeguarding certification and prior supervisory experience will be given priority.
