    The Chautauqua Bookstore is looking to fill the long term seasonal position of Assistant to the Shipping and Receiving Manager.  The person in this position will help the shipping and receiving manager process all of the inventory that will be sold in the Bookstore.   Ideally, but not necessarily,  the position will be filled by someone who is interested in working at the Institution over a number of years and whose availability dovetails nicely with the scheduling requirements.   The position asks someone to work a part time schedule - about 25 hours a week in March and April, a full time schedule is required from May through August and 15 to 20 hours a week in September and October.   The position involves a combination of physical, clerical, data entry and problem solving work and requires quite a bit of training which is provided by the manager.  Once trained, this employee will work quite a bit under his or her own direction.  The typical schedule may include some Saturday shifts and can be flexible enough to accommodate employee desires to work particular days or hours during the off season.

    Responsibilities

    1. Assist  the Receiving Manager in the processing of incoming merchandise shipments: take in cartons from UPS and Fedex and log them, checking for damages; opening shipments and checking contents against packing lists; entering shipment contents into the store's inventory system using store computers; checking that received totals match up with invoice totals; following receiving managers standards for paperwork filing;  organizing received product and preparing it for pricing and placement on the sales floor
    2. Cleanup and maintenance of the backroom/receiving area: collection of cardboard and trash materials binding them and placing them outside the Bookstore for pickup; sweeping of work area on a daily basis
    3. Some bookstore customer service, including morning news counter and coffee bar set up
    4. Other duties as appropriate and necessary

    Qualifications

    Qualifications for the position include:  

    1. General good physical health with the ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
    2. Adequate data entry skills using a standard keyboard and laser scanner and the ability to work at data entry tasks for extended periods
    3. At least average abilities in basic math
    4. At least average organizational aptitude
    5. Reliable Transportation
    6. Demonstrated ability to work closely with others and follow direction
