Chautauqua Health & Fitness at the Turner Community Center is a year-round facility located at Chautauqua Institution. We offer various memberships for use of the facility as well as Personal Services such as private personal training and swim lessons/coaching. We also offer a variety of group exercise classes throughout the year. We have a wide variety of cardiovascular and strength machines and equipment as well as an indoor pool. We have a smaller secondary facility located at Heinz Beach on the south end waterfront of the Chautauqua Institution grounds. Heinz Fitness Center is open during summer only and has similar equipment to Turner but in less quantity. It is open a bit less than Turner and does not have the indoor pool facility or many of the strength machines. Memberships purchased at either facility may be used at both.
Desk attendants are the "face of the fitness center" and "clerk of the works." They must be able to mult-task by greeting members and providing customer service, enforcing facility policies/rules, performing cleaning duties all while seeing to membership, merchandise and personal service sales as they arise. They work with lifeguards to provide patrons with a safe and enjoyable experience as they use the facility.
Turner Fitness Center is a single desk attendant facility during the off-season (Fall, Winter, Spring). During the summer we staff two desk attendants at once during peak days/times, and are a one desk attendant facility during slower times and on weekends. Heinz Fitness Center is a single desk attendant facility.
Turner staff shifts are typically 3 - 7.5 hours long depending on the shift. Heinz staff shifts are 5 hours long.
We have and regularly practice an Emergency Action Plan for our facility. We periodically discuss and practice basic first aid and CPR/AED skills. Mandatory quarterly in-services are provided.
All staff go through job training and shadow experienced staff before working on their own.
