  • Overview

    The Presidents Cottage Chef is responsible for all executing all events at the Presidents Cottage during the nine week season as well as minimal events during the pre and post seasons.  Because events at the Presidents Cottage are not daily and the majorities are during the season, the Chef would also have responsibilities at the Athenaeum Hotel under the direction of the Executive Chef. 


    • Meets with President’s Cottage Director to review events & menu needs
    • Develops all menus for all cottage events under the guidelines of the Presidents Cottage standards & acceptable ingredients
    • Responsible to manage food & labor budget per event. Small wares/Equipment may be purchased per budget and approval from Executive Chef & F&B Director.
    • Purchases all products for PC menus, working with Executive Chef on products that may already be being utilized & working directly with suppliers on specialty items and products requiring extra lead time.
    • Works closely with front of house, manager & service team to provide the highest level of service & guest experience possible. Strong Communication skills & time management are essential
    • The Presidents Cottage kitchen is equipped with sufficient range, oven & food warming equipment. The food should be prepared to the extent, determined by Chef that can be easily finished at the cottage and maintain freshness & top quality
    • Organization is essential as each event is catered from the hotel and mis en place and essential equipment must be checked, double checked and ready  at the cottage to ensure event runs efficiently
    • Served dinners are executed from the kitchen. There are larger receptions in which the canapés & hors de oeuvres must be finished and served from the garage staging area down stairs.
    • Is responsible for all scheduling of the kitchen staff and ensuring all employees are properly clocking in and out according to their scheduled times and assigned areas
    • Supervises & follows all sanitation and cleaning procedures.
    • The Presidents Cottage Chef also has responsibilities as a leader in the kitchen both while working on PC catering & on non PC event days.
    • Responsible to assist Executive Chef on all pre & post season events, as well as assist with regular in season daily operations on work days when there is no Cottage event or prep for Cottage
    • Assist Executive Chef as delegated, with any purchasing, management of food & labor costs and over all general financial/budget management

    • Utilizes all standard cleaning and sanitation resources provided; including cleaning and maintenance check lists, temperature records, opening and closing checklists etc…

    • Must have experience and knowledge of health dept regulations and standards.

    • Responsible to uphold uniform policy and personal hygiene & grooming standards in a professional manner.

    • Coaches & trains kitchen employees on proper use of kitchen equipment and product.

    • Embraces and Reflects the Companies culture and values as stated in Culture/Mission Statement to reach common goals.



    The successful candidate must have at least 3-5 years experience preferably within a foodservice operation with a comprehensive understanding of daily food production procedures. Must possess strong leadership skills combined with organizational and communication abilities.  Computer proficiency and ability to train and coach a large kitchen staff are essential.
